ANZAC Day

NZ Crayons has a very special connection to the Armed Forces as its soldiers that made the first crayons using the same moulds that bullets had been made in. After WW2 there were a number of industries that disabled returned soldiers worked in including basketweaving and weaving. Its also how we got the brand name Retsol (Returned Soldiers). We are proud to be caretakers of the Retsol brand and intend to make crayons for many more generations of Kiwis.
This year I have made some special resources for the early childhood centres / new entrant teachers.
These include some ways to help very young children understand why poppies are a symbol used for ANZAC, some creative ideas for making poppies and also some bundles of scarlet red, green and black hexagonal crayons. These are available in either a bag of 42 with six bundles (24 scarlet, 4 black, 7 dark green, 7 leaf green) or 14 with two bundles (6 scarlet,1 black, 6 leaf green, 1 dark green. These colours are also available in bundles in the standard range and the hexagons in other colours in the bundles or bulk boxes.
Unfortunately one of the side-effects of our digital world is some children don't develop the hand/arm strength and fine motor control that they need to go on to use a tripod grasp to write with. Therefore we send out a page giving some information on the importance of this with every hexagon crayon bundle, bag or box.
